  1. Here's a fact about Bunny Laroque that you'll love: He was traded from Montreal to Toronto near the end of the 1980-81 season. He had already played more than 25 games with Montreal which officially made him eligible for the Vezina Trophy. When the season was over, he won the Vezina Trophy as a Montreal Canadien---while playing with the Toronto Maple Leafs! How weird is that? It might have been this fact that convinced the league to split the goalie trophies the next season, introducing the Jennings Trophy for the goalies on the team with the lowest GAA and the Vezina for the best goalie as voted by the league's GMs. So if anybody ever asks you who was the last Leaf to win the Vezina, I would answer not Johnny Bower, but Bunny Larocque. It doesn't make sense, but technically you would be right.

    1. Great fact. Also was the only year that 3 goalies won the Vezina. Mike Liut in St. Louis had a monster year but was beaten out in GAA by the Canadiens's trio, and it felt so wrong that the Vezina was changed to the "best goalie" for the next year, and the Jennings was invented for best team GAA.
